چکیده

Objective: We aimed to show whether the antioxidant properties of pomegranate juice (PJ) a protective effect against renal damage associated with oxidative stress caused by Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) in patients who have undergone ESWL for kidney stones. Material and Methods: Ninety were undergo stones included study divided into 3 groups 30 each ESWL. Group 1 (control group) received only treatment. 2 (study recommended take ml/kg/day mixture orally days before (placebo mg/kg/day water All ESWL-treated 2000 2500 shock waves at 18 24 order measure lipid peroxidation markers showing DNA lesion tubular after ESWL, Results: There was statistically significant mean increase 52.39± 10.49 8-Hydroxy deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels treatment compared pre-treatment (p<0.01). 13.16±7.71 33.24±12.82 Groups 3, respectively (p<0.01; p<0.01, respectively) 19.20±5.21 N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) 3.44±5.21 13.07±5.50 respectively). OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pomegranate juice (PJ) on the paraoxonase and arylesterase activity of human serum paraoxonase( PON1). MATERIAL AND METHOD: Fifty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus consumed 200 ml of PJ daily for a period of 6 weeks. Blood was collected from the patients before and after PJ consumption after 12 h of fasting. Blood sugar, to...

The Place of ESWL in the Treatment of Urinary Stones in Patients with Renal Malformations

Introduction and Objectives. Congenital anomalies occur more often in the kidney than in any other organ. The association of abnormalities with stones has important clinical relevance. Our goal was to determine the clinical success and stone-free rates for patients with renal anomalies treated with eSWL. Materials and Methods. We performed a retrospective review of patients with renal anomalies...

Post-ESWL fragments as core of new kidney stones

The use of extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) to treat kidney stones gives excellent fragmentation results. However, the retention of post-ESWL fragments within the kidney remains a serious health problem. A study carried out on calcium stone patients showed that only 32% of these were found to be stone free 12 months after ESWL [1]. Therefore, the persistence and the growth of fragmen...

Effect of pomegranate juice on paraoxonase enzyme activity in patients with type 2 diabetes

OBJECTIVE(S) Paraoxonase-1 (PON1), an HDL-associated enzyme, prevents lipoprotein oxidation. PON1 enzymatic activity has been shown to decrease in patients with diabetes. Paraoxonase activity. HDL capacity to bind with PON1 is possible under specific experimental conditions, such as oxidation, addition of polyphenols, or in diabetic patients with polyphenols doses. The aim of this study was the...
